Let’s talk Easter projects: necessary? No. Fun? You betcha.
Who doesn’t love a good holiday moment, or at the very least, a theme?! This easy Easter art project checks so many boxes for me: I’m so into it.
Shout out to Mandisa from Happy Toddler Playtime. She created a similar activity years ago that I fell in love with.

Why this Easter art activity works
I don’t want an activity to take me time to set up, but I love an activity that takes my kids time to complete.
And this giant, detailed painting project takes TIME.
When I set this up for my daughter (6), we worked together to come up with the design. She was so excited to take on this challenge (and I was so excited to redirect her attention onto something other than following me around the house while I worked).

Let’s talk supplies for this Easter art activity

- Kraft paper (you can use any size paper or a cardboard box – but I love owning this paper)
- Giant permanent marker (I love this size)
- Washable paint
- Giant brushes
Remember: good activities don’t need to have complicated supply lists. Basic supplies are the best supplies.
The how-to
I cut off a big ol’ chunk of kraft paper and drew something-like an egg shape (don’t look too close). You can also use a cardboard box if you don’t have large paper.
I added all sorts of details and designs – anything I could come up with for my sweet kiddo to paint over in peace.
I wanted to make this detailed but also let her have success.
Tip: Adjust the size of this activity based on the age of your child. Large art projects work best with older children. Shrink this activity if your child is younger but loves to paint.
Tip – You do not have to do this on a wall
I appreciate your concern for my walls, but we are all good.
My daughter is trained to stay in the paper lines, she has a wet wash cloth for drips, and has done things like this for YEARS.
WHY?
Because I’m a blogger and I need to take a nice photo. You can do this on the ground, table, or outside – wherever you feel best. We feel best here (and it let’s be get that nice action photo for you).

Other tips for a successful Easter art activity
- Put the paint in a muffin tin. It just rocks as a paint holder.
- Use colors that “go together” so you don’t end up with mud. I did pink, blue, purple, and white.
- Give your child a wet wash cloth so they can clean hands, feet, drips, and spills as they need to. Kids like this autonomy.

What age is this activity for?
I am in love with any activity that can work for littles and bigs – and this Easter activity does just that!
With toddlers and preschoolers: make a simpler design on your egg. Bring this to their level rather than skipping it until their older.
With big kids: Level this up! Add intricate details and hard patterns to color (like a checker board). This can work for the big kids next to their littlest of siblings.

Are Easter activities required?
Absolutely not. Your child’s admission to Harvard is not dependent on their having done Easter activities in childhood.
Does the Easter art activity need to be giant?
Nope! Make it whatever size will work best for your child.
Does tempera paint stain?
Nope! To get it out of clothing, rinse stain with warm water and scrub with hand soap. Add more hand soap and wait 30 minutes. Scrub and rinse. This should get most of the paint out before you wash per usual.
